Course Overview

This foundational doctoral seminar explores the nature, task, and methods of Christian theology. It is designed to transition students from advanced theological learners to professional Theologians of the Church—scholars who serve the body of Christ through rigorous intellectual inquiry, biblical fidelity, and historical awareness.

The course provides a high-level survey of the various fields of theological study (Biblical, Historical, Systematic, and Practical) while equipping students with the methodological tools necessary for doctoral-level research and writing.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate the Identity of a Church Theologian: Define the vocation of the theologian as a servant-scholar within the ecclesial community.
  2. Evaluate Methodological Frameworks: Critically analyze various approaches to theological inquiry, including evangelical, classical, and contemporary methodologies.
  3. Navigate Theological Disciplines: Demonstrate an integrated understanding of the various branches of theology and how they inform one another.
